It would be a good idea to check for the presence of WebKit rather than Safari, since the open source WebKit has much more advanced capabilities than the current shipping version of Safari. In addition, the version of Safari 3.0 that Apple's shipping in the Leopard builds includes a more recent version of WebKit. Both Safari 3.0 and WebKit now fully support contentEditable as well as advanced elements of CSS3 such as resizable textareas.
