SIMPLE Instructions for Installing TinyMCE Needed BADLY

I decided to download and install TinyMCE which on its face promised a compact, easy solution to web page editing without the overwhelming complications of the server side structure of a traditional Wiki. Any "normal" individual who has ever tried to set up a traditional Wiki knows very well that you must have attained server guru status before you can possibly succeed. Mere mortals need not apply.

Unfortunately TinyMCE does not live up to its promise. It is simple alright. Simply impossible to install. The "Documentation" page in this Wiki which purports to help in installations is almost worthless to any typical user who can write limited HTML code but otherwise uses Dreamweaver or Frontpage.

As I surfed the web for a simple explanation to install TinyMCE I saw huge numbers of would-be users who were utterly unable to puzzle out the convoluted install process. All were literally begging someone, anyone for help. There were a very few highly specialized, highly technical "how to" instructions for one or another very narrow application, but nothing else.

The install process as it now exists is a barren wasteland that offers no help for the typical user unless you already know how to install TinyMCE anyway. If you doubt there is a problem, just look at the entry above. It is the sharp needle on the iceberg.

I did stumble upon one lonely video for installing TinyMCE - apparently in a Flash editor from the looks of it, but it's author had done a terrible job with the audio and his verbal coaching was unintelligible in key areas.

The community has abandoned the great bulk of the potential users and left them to rot in javascript hell and I'd like to know why this is necessary. Would it really KILL someone to provide a simple, easy to follow explanation in this Wiki that would clearly and completely explain to the general user EXACTLY how one goes about installing TinyMCE?

And we don't need to hear from the forum trolls, elitists and those who know all about everything making derogatory comments about this. If you can't or won't shed any light on something so simple, you haven't the right to criticize those who need help. Behavior like that is really, really crummy.

As for me, I've given up on TinyMCE. It is essentially unusable because of the install problem. I'm searching elsewhere for something to solve my web page editing needs. Too bad. It is such a great solution except for its fatal installation flaw. [UserI] November 11, 2008

This is a follow up to my last post. TinyMCE may have it's faults (and they are legion) but next to FCKeditor and the others, it's light years ahead. After my last post I spent another week searching for a solution and found nothing but more problems and issues. I tried FCKeditor and it was way worse that TinyMCE to deal with - and again it doesn't work for anyone who can't write the code and build their own.

I finally PAID an experienced coder (who probably could build a better editor than either of the two mentioned above) to install TinyMCE. Actually, he told ME how to install it in under 5 minutes. I'm not going to share the instructions since I had to pay for them but suffice it to say that Moxiecode is clearly not providing adequate installation documentation.

It turns out that TinyMCE is just the equivalent to a GUI for the server backend. Moxiecode doesn't tell you that boys and girls. It's really a management system for the server database - nothing more. You might as well install a conventional Wiki - or rather PAY someone to install it for you since all these solutions are written by coders for coders. I'm currently using TinyMCE and searching for a better solution.

This is an area begging for an easy-to-install, complete front end editing solution that doesn't use any of the server backend. Someday, if I can't find it, I'll hire a good coder and have him or her build me one.

By the way... I downloaded TinyMCE 3.2.1 and after the installation I found a bug. If you use the image inserting link (a toolbar icon with a tree in it - or a link in a popup menu) more than a few times, it simply stops appearing when called. I was able to get it working again by starting with a new document, dropping an some "placeholder" text and then cutting and pasting it to the old document. Positioning the cursor at the end of the new text sometimes caused the image tool to start working again. Not always, but about half the time. Looks like some sort of problem with an embedded character or code going off the tracks.

Oh, yeah - I tried to report the bug and quickly wound up in a maze at Sourceforge that rivaled the installation of the editor in complexity so I dropped the matter and figured I'd just let somebody else find the problem who has more time to spend reporting the bug than I do.

Hope this helps some of you who are looking for a simple editing answer. Keep looking - the answer's not here.
